Abstract

Manufacturing firms are created to produce essential goods that meet customer demands, with the objective of generating profit through their supply chain operations. Supplier relationship management (SRM) plays a crucial role within supply chain activities by enhancing collaboration between manufacturing firms and their suppliers, thereby improving organizational performance and profitability. This study examines SRM strategies that can enhance the performance of manufacturing firms in the UK. Specifically, it identifies the various SRM approaches adopted by these firms to improve organizational outcomes, determines the strategy that contributes most significantly to performance, analyzes how improvements in supplier performance affect manufacturing firms, and investigates the challenges associated with effective SRM implementation. To meet the research objectives and address the research question, a systematic literature review was undertaken to gather insights from existing studies on the subject. The data synthesis process employed a narrative approach, utilizing descriptive text to explain and summarize findings from relevant prior research. The results highlighted several SRM strategies that support improved organizational performance, categorized into external and internal supply chain management (SCM)-related resources. External factors included supplier partnerships, mutual trust, strategic purchasing, and mutual benefit approaches. Among these, partnership and trust were identified as having the most significant influence on organizational performance. The findings also indicated that supplier performance evaluation plays a key role in enhancing supplier performance, which in turn is a major factor in improving the overall performance of manufacturing firms. Based on these outcomes, the study concluded that strengthening relationships with suppliers enables organizations to secure essential resources more effectively while reducing costs, ultimately supporting profit maximization. Consequently, it was recommended that manufacturing firms in the UK periodically review their SRM policies to adopt strategies that align with the evolving dynamics of the supply chain environment and enhance overall performance.
